STEP 1 - Prepare the Seeds
Use fresh, viable peony seeds. Depending on the species, seeds may require a period of warm, moist conditions followed by cold stratification to break dormancy. Follow the supplier's instructions for the specific variety.
STEP 2 - Sow the Seeds
Prepare deep pots with fertile, well-draining soil. Sow the seeds about 1-2 cm deep and water gently. Keep the growing medium moist but not waterlogged.
STEP 3 - Germination & Care
Place the pots in a suitable cool-climate growing environment. Peony seed germination can be slow and may take several months or longer. Protect young seedlings from intense heat and ensure good airflow.
STEP 4 - Transplant & Flowering
Once seedlings are established, transplant them into a garden bed or large container with good drainage. Peonies grown from seed may take several years to flower. Provide the seasonal cooling conditions required by the species and avoid disturbing established roots unnecessarily.
