STEP 1 - Prepare the Soil
Choose a sunny location with deep, fertile, well-draining soil. Mix in compost and prepare a seedling tray or deep pots. Asparagus develops a long-lasting root system and needs enough space to mature.
STEP 2 - Sow the Seeds
Soak asparagus seeds in clean water for several hours or overnight if recommended by the supplier. Sow seeds about 1-2 cm deep, cover lightly with soil, and water gently. Keep the growing medium moist during germination.
STEP 3 - Transplant & Care
Once seedlings are strong enough, transplant them into a prepared garden bed or large container. Provide around 6-8 hours of sunlight daily, water consistently, and keep the planting area free of weeds. Protect young plants from waterlogging and excessive heat.
STEP 4 - Growth & Harvest
Allow asparagus plants to establish strong crowns and roots before harvesting. Plants grown from seed generally need about 2-3 years before regular spear harvesting is recommended. Once established, harvest suitable young spears during the appropriate growing season and allow the plants to recover.
